Which means we are all set to go finally in this one, City kick us off a goal up.
The forward was twice denied by Gunn, while Pedro also dinked over in the closing stages but substitute Morata should have done far better moments later when he ran clean through only for a weak angled shot to be easily saved.
City will be looking to add a bit of encouragement with a view towards the 2024-25 campaign.

Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City Half-time
Nkunku has a breakaway but he cannot get past his marker.
One play later, he is tackled in the box but again the referee said continue.
City go into half time with the precious lead despite an industrious home side.
City were arguably the better of the two sides, with three efforts on target to Chelsea’s one.
You are justly predispositioned to give up more of the ball, but Chelsea have been on it for many moments in there and their first half opportunities against City must be classified as wasted.
Hopefully they come back to a better show.

Jackson goal ruled offside
Jackson feeds Nkunku, who in turn lays it off to Palmer on the right side outside of the box.
Palmer hits it left-footed and Ederson gets down really well to his right, palms behind.
Jackson buries the second chance, but he is called offside right away by the linesman.
It looks like Foden got it up in time and, sure enough there is a VAR check to confirm the decision.
A slightly hard done Chelsea would have loved to level this before half-time.

Brentford 2-1 Crystal Palace: Late Wissa goal helps Bees progress to EFL Cup last_16
Brentford also enjoyed a successful to life back in the Premier League with a 2-1 home victory over Crystal Palace and once more Yoane Wissa found the net, this time from inside six yards after Joel Valle’s cross.
Palace did find the net after 26 minutes through a brilliant Eberechi Eze free kick, but it was disallowed for another foul by Will Hughes just as the strike hit.
The hosts took the lead with 26 minutes remaining when Bryan Mbeumo capitalised on a swift break down their right, cutting inside and slotting into the bottom corner as Brentford scored against the run of play three minutes later.
Ethan Pinnock had earlier turned into his own net to level in the 56th minute, but Wissa scored a scrappy goal with 14 minutes left.

The battles between City and Chelsea of late
City edged a 1-0 win over Arsenal in the final four of that competition at Wembley Stadium, London back in May.
The Blues last journey to Stamford sat Cheek become a competitively contested 4-4 draw back in November, which saw Cole Palmer net City’s late equaliser from the penalty spot.
It was one of two stalemates in the league meetings, halting a run of six straight wins for Guardiola’s men over the West Londoners. Kai Havertz (above) scored Chelsea’s only goal in their Champions League final win earlier this yearChelsea before that run, was won the 2021 Champions League with a one-goal victory over Manchester City and Arsenal.
It was indeed Chelsea’s third straight victory over City in that campaign — the first two coming via a home-and-away pair of FA Cup games involving both sides’ B teams — but he did lose to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge 3-1, with Phil Foden scoring among others.

Paul Tierney will be the man in black at Stamford Bridge this week as Manchester City travel to London toastride Chelsea.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has warned Manchester City that his pricy Chelsea rebuild will be competing against them for the Premier League title soon.
Recruited from Leicester last summer, Maresca is Chelsea’s sixth manager in a tumultuous post-Todd Boehly takeover spell.
City were runaway champions last season – the Blues finished 28 points off the pace of their rivals in second place – and are struggling to fit all of Boehly’s new signings into one squad, with Maresca dealing as best he can.
Maresca will get a taste of life against City, who hammered Hull to so close in the Premier League last season.
However, the 44-year-old Italian — who was Guardiola’s number two at City before his single season with Leicester after Claudio Ranieri’s sacking and would be interested in working for Chelsea full-time — fears they will face another “uphill battle” if not.
“From my point of view, now in this moment, the gap between us and other teams that are dominating English football it is only a matter of time,” Maresca claimed.
Clubs that have had a manager for nine years, eight of clubs. We are with the same manager for a month. Certainly over time, we are going to make up the difference. And hopefully, it can happen very soon.

Yves Dabila and Allen Flannigan are out injured while Gaizka Garitano is yet to recover his fitness, which suggests United may soon be back in that transfer market.
Pep Guardiola has revealed that Rodri picked up an injury and Manchester City will be missing the Spain midfielder for their opening game of the Premier League season against Chelsea.
The highly-regarded 28-year-old has only recently resumed training, having been withdrawn at half-time in Spain’s Euro 2024 final win over England last month. Phil Foden, John Stones and Kyle Walker are expected to be available at Stamford Bridge following their post-Euros break but Rodri has not been given the all-clear.
When asked if Rodri could be in contention to face Chelsea prior to the clash, Guardiola said: “No. He is in training. You know what, I haven´t seen him. He feels good. And Murty said: “We will have to see how he is after training.
Rodri has become unavailable at a somewhat premature stage of City´s quest for an unprecedented five straight English league titles. City will be desperate to start their defence in style at Stamford Bridge, although Guardiola has revealed that he could still have personnel problems when the new season gets under way. Foden, Stones and Walker are lacking fitness as they only resumed training this week after holidays.
“Probably they are not going to be ready for 90 minutes but maybe, yes, one is ready and another in the last 15,” said Guardiola. “The bottom line of it is everybody back more or less and, besides Oscar [Bobb], the rest are fine.
A non-contact training pitch incident left Bobb with a fractured bone in his leg, and he was to have an operation on Friday.
The 20-year-old Norway winger is likely to be out of action for between two and four months, according to Guardiola. The news of Bobb’s setback comes at a time when Argentina forward Julian Alvarez departed for Atletico Madrid, and Guardiola admitted he may need to delve into the transfer market in order to bring in replacements.
We will see, maybe Yes or Maybe not….” Spaniard said. I’m really happy with the squad I’ve got. We will see. I’m set. Lets see what comes in the market. That way we can carry on until January, or maybe add some players.”

A two-horse race?
Manchester City and Arsenal are thought to be the only serious title contenders for 2024-25.
City — title winners in each of the last four campaigns, are favourites to retain it again.
But a subdued summer and the exit of Alvarez, an important piece to their attack, adds extra question marks. Likewise, it is understood that the future of manager Pep Guardiola at City hangs in the balance with Spaniard inside final year of his deal.
Italy international Riccardo Calafiori has been added to the squad, which looks like it will offer Arsenal one of their best chances in some time at toppling City from top spot if they are able to reproduce last seasons form under Mikel Arteta when finishing second.

Chelsea have sacked another manager, same shit different season
An uncomfortable Mauricio Pochettino spent a year in the Stamford Bridge hotseat lamenting that his squad was overflowing with raw, inexperienced pups.
Bid departure of Agrentinian was much-expected and new manager Enzo Maresca looks to be following suit despite a huge backing.
That represents the third successive window in which they have spent more than any of their rivals on both total fees and number of players signed, with eleven new faces arriving at Stamford Bridge this summer.
But less than 21 years is the average age for those who are joining new. However, with almost $300m spent the expectations will be as ever astronomical.
Maresca is just 4th season as a manager, having previously had stints at Parma and Leicester City, but perhaps the biggest challenge that will face the Italian is a sprawling senior squad in excess of 50 players. Just 25 of those can be registered with the Premier League before next season

Who can stop Manchester City?
Pep Guardiola’s team became the first ever English champions four times running in May, adding to the 2023 success of five trophies.
Meanwhile, in more of a shock twist at the start of this year Julien Alvarez left Cityzens to go and manage Atletico Madrid having secured two Premier League titles and Champions League over his 2 years.
This is a player that, just looking at the age of 24 and his trajectory early on in City’s hierarchy seemed like the future. But your ability to prefer Argentina moves very clearly from where this group may be headed — as well as how comfortable Guardiola would obviously feel with each step they took together even further into uncharted territory.
It followed the signing of Brazilian forward Savinho by Manchester City from French outfit Troyes. The 20-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Girona in Spain and inspired the relative minnows to third place in LaLiga.
But are there any realistic challengers to the title this year and just who will go on to raise the crown; Al Jazeera Sport examines potential runners, with focus in particular over whether anyone can halt Manchester City….!!
